Valuable Resources for the Professional Property Assessor
An occasional series that recommends useful websites to our readers as discovered by Property Assessment authors or suggested by readers.
Tax Policy Center

Property assessors and administrators of the property tax, including those who oversee these functions, are often called upon to review, analyze, recommend, or respond to tax policy. It is the very environment in which we all do our jobs. The Internet is a great resource for discovering what may already have been analyzed or researched on a particular subject, but it's important to know where to go in your search. The Tax Policy Center has proven to be a reliable source. Accessing their website on October 19, 2009, searching on the exact phrase "property tax" returned 24 articles, authors, or publications. Each of these sources in turn could be researched to uncover even more sources. For example, each author could be researched separately for other articles or publications written by the same author or publisher on the subject of property taxes.
According to their website, the Tax Policy Center (TPC) provides timely, accessible analysis and facts about tax policy to policymakers, journalists, citizens, and researchers. The TPC is a joint venture of the Urban Institute (http://www.urban.org) and Brookings Institution (http://www.brookings.edu). The Center is made up of nationally recognized experts in tax policy, budget, and social policy who have served at the highest levels of government, according to their website.
I highly recommend this site.
